Movement that builds bodies, brains and confidence
Our physical programme goes beyond exercise. We develop the whole child through purposeful, joyful movement – building the foundations for lifelong physical activity and confident learning.
Physical development is brain development
Here’s something that might surprise you: physical activity isn’t just good for children’s bodies. It’s essential for their brains.
Movement is inherent in human beings. It also acts as a bridge between the inner world of thinking and the outer world of doing. When children move with purpose and intention, they’re not just exercising – they’re developing their capacity to think, plan and problem-solve.
Research consistently shows that movement and physical play support:
- Cognitive development - physical activity strengthens neural connections and supports learning
- Focus and attention - children who move more are better able to concentrate
- Emotional regulation - movement helps children manage stress and regulate their emotions
- Social skills - physical play teaches cooperation, turn-taking and navigating relationships
- Confidence - mastering physical challenges builds self-belief that transfers to other areas
Yet in our increasingly screen-based world, many children aren’t getting the movement they need. Our MindSport programme fills this gap – giving children the physical foundations they need for healthy development, lifelong activity and confident learning.
THE 4 STRANDS WE DEVELOP
The four building blocks of movement
MindSport is built around four interconnected strands – each developing different aspects of physical capability and self-awareness.
Movement-Based Experiences
Movement is how children discover their physical capabilities. Through running, jumping, climbing, balancing, dancing and playing, children develop fundamental movement skills that will support physical activity for life.
Children explore a wide range of movement experiences – indoors and outdoors, structured and free, individual and collaborative. They discover what their bodies can do and build the coordination, strength and confidence to try new things.
Physical Problem-Solving
Physical challenges aren’t just about strength or speed – they require thinking. How do I get over this obstacle? How can we work together to achieve this goal? What happens if I try a different approach?
We present children with physical challenges that require planning, collaboration and creative thinking. By nurturing problem-solving in a physical context, children learn to break down challenges and work toward solutions – skills that transfer well beyond physical activity.
Centring-Based Experiences
Children need to understand the connection between their bodies, minds and emotions. Centring experiences focus on self-awareness, helping children develop focus, recognise how their bodies feel and understand how movement affects their mood and energy.
Through age-appropriate mindfulness activities, breathing exercises and focused movement, children learn to centre themselves, manage their energy and understand the mind-body connection. These are tools for self-regulation that will serve them throughout life.
Cultural-Based Experiences
Physical play looks different across cultures – and that diversity is something to celebrate. Cultural experiences introduce children to games and activities from around the world, promoting inclusion, curiosity and respect for different traditions.
We incorporate games and movement activities from diverse cultures, helping children understand that there are many ways to move, play and express ourselves physically. This celebrates difference and builds cultural awareness through joyful physical experience.
HOW IT WORKS IN PRACTICE
What your child will experience
MindSport is woven throughout your child’s day at MindChamps – in the Nursery, Toddler Room and Preschool, with activities adapted for each developmental stage.
In our MindSport sessions, your child will:
- Develop fundamental movement skills - running, jumping, throwing, catching, balancing, climbing
- Build spatial and body awareness - understanding where their body is in space and what it can do
- Experience physical challenges that require problem-solving and collaboration
- Learn to focus, centre themselves and understand the mind-body connection
- Explore games and activities from different cultures
- Build confidence through mastering physical challenges
- Experience purposeful outdoor learning and adventure
Every session combines fun with growth. When children play, explore, and move, they develop strength, coordination, and confidence. Each small success builds their skills and self-belief, creating a positive cycle that encourages lifelong activity and curiosity.
